Jam of the Week (Girlfriend)

No one is hyper than me over the Justin Timberlake/N’Sync performance on last night’s VMA awards. I’m not at all a lover of boy bands but I am an N’Sync FANATIC and damn proud of it. I was so hyped I was jumping around and singing like I was at a concert. And so I must dedicate this week’s jam of the week to my boys Justin, JC, Joey, Lance and Chris!

Song: Girlfriend
Album: Celebrity
Artist: N’Sync

I can’t publish this post without acknowledging what a great performer Justin Timberlake is. I thoroughly enjoy him (and the tinge of jealousy it gives Mr. Grumps). His VMA performance was AMAZEBALLS and I couldn’t think of anyone more deserving of the Video Vanguard award. Here’s of video of his performance…ENJOY!

Happy Monday Friends! Let’s make it a great one. 🙂

Ode to Deep Conditioners and Cousin Beauticians

This post is for all the deep conditioners of the world. Thank you for revitalizing, rejuvenating and resuscitating our lovely sometimes mistreated locks.

I’ve been going to the same Dominican beautician for about 12 years now. She’s great and she always makes my hair look healthy and amazing. She has a gang of loyal clients who have followed her to whatever salon she’s worked from and recently most of us have even stuck with her while she does hair out of her apartment. Anything for a good wash and set! But, of course there’s a but, she’s been missing for about a month or a little more, she’s never been gone this long! All her clients are aware that every summer she goes home to DR for a couple of weeks but now my girlfriends and I are starting to get worried. We’ve even decided to form a search party, by search party we’re just gonna meet up and knock on her door and see if she answers. This is like serious business. You don’t mess with a girl and her hair appointments!

In the meantime in between time a girl’s gotta do what she’s gotta do to maintain her do, so I’ve been blow drying and flat ironing my hair a little more than I’m used to and depriving my hair of the conditioner it needs. Last night I made it my business to deep condition my hair, I used Cholestrol Olive Oil conditioner and let it sit for about 2.5 hours. Then I let my beautiful secondary soon to be promoted to primary beautician, who is also my cousin go to work. When she was done with my hair I couldn’t believe my eyes and I also couldn’t keep my hands out of my hair. It was super soft, shiny and hella healthy looking. What more can a girl ask for!

So special thank you to my cousin Erica #ericaaleshadoesmyhair and to Cholestrol Olive Oil conditioner for making my hair look like everything right in this world!

Love you Erica! ❤

Snubbed

It seems like these days everyone either has an iPhone or a Galaxy. Any other phone is uncivilized. I figured as long as you are a owner of one if not both of these super smartphones you’re one of the “cool kids”. Ha!

I used to be a smartphone junkie. Every new phone that came out I tried. Then I married Blackberry and I swear I owned every version of the Blackberry that came out (every one from the very first blue one with the track ball to the touch screen one with the little mousepad). After awhile I started seeing 9 year olds using the same phone as me and so I decided maybe it was time to say bye bye to my Blackberry and give the Iphone a try. Outside of BBM (Blackberry Messenger) that I loved and sometimes still miss the Iphone was a great suit for me. So much so that I’ve had the same phone for about 2 or 3 years, this is a massive amount of time for someone like me who used to get a new phone every 9 months. So here I am walking around with my Iphone 4 (not to be mistaken for 4S with Siri) thinking all is right with the world.

Well last week I had my bubble busted and the wool lifted from over my eyes. I went to the doctor’s office in the middle of the afternoon and my battery was on 20% and as I waited and waited I watched that 20% go down to 8% and that 8% go down to 3%. I didn’t panic because out of the 5 girls at the front desk chances are that at least 2 of them had Iphones and we have enough of a relationship that they would let me “steal some juice”. So I approached the front desk all super confident that in about 10 seconds my battery would be well on it’s way to a resuscitation

Me: “Hey ladies, can I borrow one of your Iphone chargers for about 10 minutes?”
Them: “Sure”…”oh wait is that a 4?”
Me: “Yep”
Them: “Oh”…”None of us have 4’s we all have 5’s”
Me: “Oh, ok cool well thanks anyway” (that awkward moment when you find out you’re probably not part of the “cool kids clique” anymore)
Them: “Sorry” (accompanied with the sympathetic it sucks to be you face).

I’m not usually the keep up with the jones type of girl, I kind of dance to the beat of my own drum but dagnamit if I didn’t feel like the quintessential teenage girl that gets shunned at the popular girls’ table that she once called home because she has a couple of pimples. And that ladies and gentlemen is when I realized that this super hip in the know mom wasn’t as in the know as she thought she was…..

No worries…I got this!

Jam of the Week (I Don’t Care)

So you know how you have theme songs going in your head throughout your day? If you know what I’m talking about yaaaaaaaaassssssssssssssss, if you don’t just don’t judge me.

For instance this is my theme song for when I walk into an establishment when I go out:

Song: Caramel
Album: City High
Artist: City High

This is my theme song for when I’m working out:

Song: Raise Your Glass
Album: Greatest Hits…So Far!!!
Artist: Pink

This is my theme song for when Mr. Grumps does something crazy sweet and I look at him lovingly:

Song: Brotha
Album: Mahogany Soul
Artist: Angie Stone

Hopefully that helped you get an idea of what I mean by theme song, now moving along. I’m not sure what my sexy sensual song was before this song came along but whatever it was this song knocked it out the park. This is my soundtrack for the days when I feel really pretty and sexy or the days I look in the mirror and I smile. And so it’s only right that I make this the Jam of the Week. Now how’s that for a soundtrack!

Song: I Don’t Care
Album: Perfectly Imperfect
Artist: Elle Varner
